Definition: Kidney stones are solid and consist of salt and minerals that stick together in the urine in the kidney. They can be the size of a tiny pebble or as large as a golf ball. Excruciating pain is a common symptom when the stones are being passed in the urine.

Examples:
He felt excruciating pain in his abdomen and after an evaluation by his urologist, learned that he had a kidney stone that was not ready to pass.
